I have always had really silky smooth hair but with the regular sunlight exposure and pollution in Delhi, my hair have lost their shine, much like everyone else’s. So even though I still describe my hair with the word ‘silky’, it hardly looks like it used to anymore.
My mother is a fan of DIY beauty projects, she just keeps mixing things together and using me as her guinea pig. Almost every sunday in my house begins with my mother waking me up with some new mixture she has whipped up, waiting to apply it on me. I don’t mind it so much, in fact, I think I enjoy it unless I have some urgent plans to get to. Some of the products my mother makes work, others don’t.
Here is the story of one that actually worked!
Now we all know about the benefits of eggs. Remember the famous saying – ‘Sunday ho ya Monday, roz khao anday?’ – Almost every desi kid would! Well, eggs are good not just as a breakfast option but also for your hair. My mother and I got some things from our kitchen and mixed them together to make an egg hair mask for shiny hair.
We took one egg, a tablespoon of milk, a tablespoon of olive oil and one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and stirred them together until it was a smooth mixture. You can vary the quantity depending on the length of your hair. My hair is just a little bit shorter than medium length (thanks to a recent not-so-great haircut!) and one tablespoon of everything is just about perfect.
My mother sat me down and gave me a nice champi. I kept the hair mask on for about an hour before I went in for a bath. My hair actually got pretty hard by the end of an hour so I don’t think you need to keep it on for longer. Just pour 2-3 mugs of water to make it a little softer before you use shampoo.
The end result was absolutely amazing, you could see an instant shine to my hair even when I wasn’t out in the sunlight!
There is the problem of that faint egg smell staying back but if you wash your hair properly, you can get rid of it. You probably can’t get rid of it from your bathroom soon enough but, hey, that’s just a con you have to live with if shiny hair is what you aim for.
So there you go, I use this little trick every weekend or whenever I can to have smoother and of course, shinier hair!
